For a one-week school project, I was tasked with creating a poster for the play Snow Falling on Cedars. Given very few guidelines, I needed to create something that not only caught the eye, but appropriately represented the book that the play was based on without giving anything away.
Before I began sketching any ideas, I researched the existing brand established by Snow Falling on Cedars. This included other posters, the movie, fan art and book covers. From this research, I gained a solid understanding of the tone that my poster should set.
After doing my research, I gathered together some images that I felt represented the mood that I wanted to convey: cold and morose. These feelings best reflect the experience of watching Snow Falling on Cedars. While designing my own poster, I used this moodboard as a reference to ensure tonal accuracy.
